WHAT: Free Community Conference hosted by GOFISH Coalition

GO FISH invites all fishermen, fishing industry businesses and their families affected by the BP Oil Spill Disaster Settlement: Economic Losses and Compensation, to attend, express concerns, and receive answers to help individuals, families, and small businesses make the best informed decision regarding their offers.

There will be informational panels on the following topics:

1) BP Economic Settlement: Pro’s & Con’s

2) Basin Specific Impact to the Fisheries & Fishermen: From the Perspective of the Fishermen

3) Impact to the Fisheries & to the Community

Gulf Organized Fisheries in Solidarity & Hope (GO FISH) is a seafood industry coalition formed in reaction to the unprecedented challenges faced by commercial fishermen of all fisheries as a consequence of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. GO FISH’s mission is to assure the fair treatment of fishermen and supporting industries, the real restoration of damage to our traditional fishing grounds, and preservation of our resource-based coastal way of life.

Shrimpers to battle over turtle rules

New federal efforts to save endangered sea turtles in the Gulf of Mexico are angering shrimpers who say their livelihood is being threatened. The culprit, in their view, is equipment called a turtle excluder device, or TED.

A New Generation

My heart is overflowing with pride, that families who have lived in Lower Lafitte for well over 80 years has continued to grow such beautiful little red beans.

On August 1st 2012, God gave us the blessing of raising a new baby in our wonderful community.  This is my BEAUTIFUL grand daughter Maelie Rose Navero.  She is a 5th generation Lafittian, and what that truly means is that she will be loved and cared for by a whole community.  This is why we stay, this is why we endure the heartache of hurricane season, so we can see our children and grandchildren grow up and thrive in the awesome place we call HOME.  As Dorothy said... 

There's no place like HOME !

Welcome to this place we call paradise Maelie.  May you grow to love it as much as we do.

2012 Jean Lafitte Seafood Festival

On behalf of Mayor Tim Kerner, the Council of the Town of Jean Lafitte, it's residents, and all of Jefferson, come celebrate 200 years of Louisiana heritage and culture at the Jean Lafitte Seafood Festival. The festival will be held on the grounds of the Town Hall at 2654 Jean Lafitte Boulevard. Admission is only $10 and children 12 and under are FREE!

The Lafitte Seafood Festival is Jefferson's celebration of Louisiana's culture, heritage, strength, food and perseverance! The people of Lafitte and surrounding area of Jefferson know a thing or two about "laissez les bon temps rouler" or "letting the good times roll". Come celebrate with the BEST seafood dishes, artisan booths, craft vendors, storytelling, kids' activities, music and more.

Gerald LeBlanc & Scottie Schouest Swamp People interview

Casting directors seemed charmed by a grandfather-grandson team that traveled from Louisiana to audition.
Scottie Schouest Jr., 24, told them he'd learned all about alligator hunting at grandpa Gerald LeBlanc's knee.
"For as long as I can remember, he's had me out in a boat," Schouest said of 77-year-old LeBlanc.
For them, come September every other activity takes a back seat to alligator hunting season.
"It's definitely in our blood," he said. "We just love to do it.'

Our delivery person for Lafitte called this morning and said hopefully we will have pies in 2 months.  He said at the longest 8 months.  I am just glad to here that they will be COMING BACK !!
